Heath Reform

The top priority set by the Obama Administration is that of the health care reform. President Obama has made the health care bill one of his top priorities and is now trying to push it through the senate and the house to induce public health care on society versus private health care. The big controversy is that between the democrats and republican in the house and the senate. There are the democrats who are trying their hardest to push the bill through, and then there are the republicans who disagree with some of the bills attributes.

Senate Jeanne Shaheen says, “Listen, in the end, this is going to be a compromise. It's not going to be a perfect bill, but it's going to be a very important starting point (http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/11/22/health.care/)." She is completely right, since there is no conclusive agreeing on the bill as of right now it is just going to continue to be passed back and forth till both parties are happy, which in the end means that both sides will be compromising.

But which side is right? Is the bill good for Americans? Well there are pros and cons to the bill and they are the contributing factors to where the bill stands as of right now. Since there is no compliance of the bill, the senate has opened the floor to altering the health care bill. Is this bill really needed?
Something does need to be done in America to help all the people not insured but I don’t know if handing health care to the government for reform is the right thing for the country. It should be a choice and for the citizens who do not have health care the public sector is great, but the tax that is going to be imposed is not fair and I do not agree.

Pros (http://www.cnn.com/2009/politics/07/14/house.health.care/index.html):
• Helps 50 million Americans who do not have insurance
• Reduce long term growth of health care costs
• Assure affordability
• Help in the long run

Cons:
• Imposes tax on wealthy to fund health care
• Takes jobs away from citizens
• Takes business away from private sectors

There should be a choice, if the new health care bill is really going to open opportunity and help the economy rather than pushing it more into the ground than I believe it should be passed, but with people having a choice to stay with their pre-existing insurers if wanted. This idea was placed into the senates health bill that they have begin to derive.

Senate health bill (http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/11/21/senate.health.bill.expect/index.html ):
• Includes a government-run public health insurance option.
• Prohibits illegal immigrants from participating in a health insurance exchange created for those unable to afford health coverage.
• Prohibits the use of federal funds for abortion coverage in the exchange.
• Increases Medicare payroll tax on individuals earning $200,000 a year and couples earning $250,000 a year.
• Prevents insurance companies from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions.

I believe there should be a choice and that the senate’s bill for health reform is more open to the public than the house. I also think that there should be an equal tax on everyone, not more on the rich or on the poor but an equal tax on everyone, since it is everyone who needs insurance. There is only one way to make this fair to everyone and that is to have a bill that would impose a tax on everyone, allow citizens to choose between private or public sectors, and to make the bill in a way that will help the people. This can be done by opening more options for what the bill will cover and what it won’t.

But in all of this the main thing is that this bill will take away from the private sectors in the medical field, and the government will control the health care system in America. Yea, insurance is expensive for everyone, but even with the new bill that is in the process of trying to be passed there will still be issues. Prices won’t automatically drop and everything won’t just be great. This all is a process, and it will be a long one to get the economy on its feet, and health care is not the only thing in the way.
